It has been around two years since award-winning director Salim Ahammed’s Mammootty-starrer period film Pathemari reached the screens. Those who have watched the film could easily recollect the face of actor Stevin Kagoo, who enacted the younger age of Sreenivasan’s Moideen. Now the same actor is back in action with yet another film titled Paviyettante Madhura Chooral. The interesting part is that Stevin will be seen again essaying Sreeni’s younger period. “I feel really proud as I got a call yet again to enact his younger version. Another element which attracted me to this project is that it is being filmed based on Sreeni sir’s script,” says Stevin. He points out that it was his role in Pathemari which helped him become part of titled Paviyettante Madhura Chooral.
“It was the production controller of the film Sasi (Poduval) ettan called me to this film. He asked me to reach the sets of the film and as per his instruction, I went to Kannur, where I met Sreeni sir. Being the writer, he has a clear idea about the looks of each role. He confirmed me for the role,” says the actor, who started his career with Prithviraj-starrer Ennu Ninte Moideen. “I had attended many audition camps and it was through such an audition I got the call to ENM. But unfortunately, as the film got trimmed, my role became very short. It was from the sets of ENM that I went to attend the audition of Pathemari. The process of Salim sir making the actors fit for each role is very different.
After confirming me for the younger Moideen, he asked me to attend the camp where I became friends with Rohit, who acted the young Narayanan. In fact, it was what Salim sir wanted — he wanted to bring that friendship on the screen,” says Stevin, who has yet another film to reach screens — Kailash-starrer Devayanam. It was after pursuing bachelor’s degree in Nursing and masters in Hospital Management that he came to films. “I was active in theatre during my school days just because of my passion for acting. So when I completed Masters, I chose to try my hand in cinema as I could see many of my friends becoming active in the industry,” he says. So what about his next? “I cannot say anything right now. Many projects are under discussion; that is all I can say now,” he sums up.
