Year End Special: A great year for me and the industry
This year has brought out a major change in my life as well as the film industry where I have been working from past seven years. The main change, I feel, is that Pulimurugan could increase different possibilities for filmmaking.
My film could extend the marketing possibility, which is the main parameter in front of commercial filmmakers, including me. The key aspect is that my film could break that so-called limitations and this practice is now supporting more directors to come up with new ideas. We could see that reflecting in many films which are now under discussion. Some films are being planned with extended technical backup. I feel 2016 is a lucky year for me as well as the Malayalam film industry.
As for me, since beginning, I have been trying to do commercial films. As we had so many limitations in front of us, especially in terms of budget, we always tried to fit our projects into a planned budget. Pulimurugan gave me the freedom to cross that limit. The victory of this film gave more strength to me as well as our industry.
Personally there is no big change in me. I prefer to analyse the change in the commercial sector of Malayalam cinema. Now I cannot fathom how we made debut Pokkiri Raja; all parameters have changed. I have tried to update myself according to changes. Even the taste of audiences is changing. It is an ongoing process and it is the director’s duty to change according to that. I am trying to do films according to the times.
Pulimurgan could leave a mark in the industry last year. It is just because of the effort we have taken for the film. I feel that success makes us more responsible when we come up with next offering.
Steady climb
