Year End Special: Had no clue a song would change my life
The year 2016 was really a good one for me. I work as a headload worker and never dreamt that my life would change like this. When Shine sir selected the song Muthe Ponne Pinangalle... for Action Hero Biju and asked me to sing and act in it, I had no clue that it would become a hit and change my life. I write different songs, including devotional songs, but Muthe Ponne was not written for the movie. I had penned it long ago for my neighbour Ranjith, a college student, who wanted a song they could sing on their campus. When Shine sir came across the song, he decided to include it in the movie.
I had no camera fright while shooting. I sang it just like I did among my peers. Also, Shine sir had given me clear instructions. There was no big crowd to see my shoot as it happenned inside a police station. Only those who were close to the movie were present and everyone clapped after each shot.
People came to know about me. I could feel their affection everywhere I went. They take photos with me. The song has become synonymous with me. It is a pleasure to hear those who don’t know my name calling me the Muthe Ponne man. I am lucky to have all this in my life.
Writing songs is my hobby. Like they say, sometimes, I get the thread while taking bath. Then, I develop it, make it a song, rewrite it till I am satisfied and present it among my friends. I write different kinds of songs. Pattu veno nalla pattu veno… oru nalla nadan pattu veno… is one such folk song. Once Muthe Ponne... became a hit, I wrote a book for DC Books under the title Muthe Ponne Pinangalle, a compilation of my songs. Post Action Hero Biju, I got many offers for films and short films, but I didn’t take up any. I thought I would consider those after completing Shine sir’s next project Poomaram in which I don the role of a man who runs a canteen.
