Simpallag Innond Love Story movie review: A journey driven by dialogues
Director: Suni
Cast: Praveen Meghana Gaonkar, Master Sohan Shetty
The first film – ‘Simpallag Ond Love Story’ was hugely popular for its dialogues, and now, Suni returns in an attempt to repeat similar success with its sequel. This time, he prefers hitting the road with a lot more imagination, while driving the film forward with his trademark signature dialogues. Though both the intention and the destination sounds good, the film is a bumpy journey as the talented director has played it safe!
An admitted fact that the sequel was suppose to be his debut venture, and that he had kept it aside for its higher financial requirements, Suni will now only be relieved as the sequel fails to evoke similar emotions for its predictability. A journey with a twist is what Suni offers this time while he pens another romantic-comedy. Even the lyrics seem to be largely influenced by the dialogues, wherein here is the case of excessive enthusiasm and also a bit of obsession to garnish every scene with a dialogue.
Born on the same date, year and also in the same the hospital, the two main characters grow apart and in no time the story is brought to their mid-twenties. Praveen plays Kush, the only son from a fairly rich family with a 'lively' attitude towards life, whereas Meghna plays a perfect match here. While Kush has already 'rejected' the girl, he decides to have some fun by hitting the road. However, he does not even have the driving license to do so. A small prank to abscond in a brand new car while test-driving it, accidentally leads to the girl, and the journey heads to Karwar from Bengaluru.
Driving around in a stolen car, everything thereafter is a silly game of romance, and even the four villains who they encounter in a couple of scenes are funny, but only for their costumes. The chase sequences and the fight scene are deplorable. A fair acting by the two - Praveen and Meghana along with the music curbs the boredom to some extent.
Next time, it might be better to work on the story first, then the screenplay and finally the dialogues!
