Chinababu movie review: Karthi steals the show
Cast: Karthi, Sayyeshaa, Sathyaraj, Satru, Arthana, Soori, Shankar
Director: Pandiraj
Karthi, whose films make good money in Telugu too, returns with Chinababu that is produced by his brother Suriya.
China Babu is the son of a rich landlord (Sathyaraj) who has a large family, and works as a farmer. China Babu is the archetypal family man and looks after all of them. Two of his nieces want to marry him, and his sisters support them. But China Babu falls in love with another girl (Sayyeshaa), This irks his family who start distancing themselves.
Pandiraj sets the emotional family drama in a rural setting, but this is not new to Tollywood from the time of NTR and Krishna.
The director takes the first half to highlight the farmer and deals with the family in the second. He packages well the ego clashes, sentiments and family bonds. Though the story is predictable, it never bores you. There are many punch dialogues and jokes in between.
Karthi steals the show both as a farmer and as a family person. The role of a father is a cake walk for a senior actor like Sathyaraj. Sayyeshaa as the village girl looks good. Soori provides the laughs. Telugu actor Satru plays the villain and is suited for the role. The rest of the cast puts in a natural performance. The cinematography captures the village backdrop nicely.
