Movie Review: No 'Role Model'
Cast: Fahadh Faasil, Vinay Forrt, Sharafudheen, Vinayakan, Namitha, Srinda
Director: Raffi
Rating: 2.5 stars
This latest Fahadh Faasil outing has enough laughter, banter, adventure and suspense one can expect from a youth cast. All these factors work well to hold a viewer to their seats till the first half. Fahadh, VinayForrt, Sharafudheen, Vinayakan and Srinda form the friends gang Role Models. By some quirk of fate, or precisely, the intervention of Gautham’s (Fahadh’s) professor dad (Renji Panicker) they are separated, well before the college life comes to end, only to meet many years later.
The professor pays a hefty price for his strict dad morale — a withdrawn Gautham. The friends’ reunion is the only way he finds to bring his only son back to his cheerful and lively former self. Certain unusual ways of behavior of Gautham throw sufficient hints of him facing some serious trouble pertaining to his health. The refreshing trip to Goa is their solution to make Gautham happy, and to forge the broken strings with his ex-girlfriend Shreya (Namitha Pramod). Things are smooth until this point.
In the second half, things from part one appear to be clearly forgotten or mercilessly chopped at the editor’s table. The intention behind naming the movie Role Models seems to be the director’s attempt to add one more to the club of youth-oriented do-gooder films. But the way the whole affair is hastily wound up in a hair-brained conclusion takes the very life out of this movie.
