Life is one day long game
India’s very first gaming carnival is here! The first of its kind event will witness a mix of gaming, along with music, comedy and sports entertainment. Aiming to bring together pro gaming and eSports with popular mainstream culture, the daylong event will also see performances by Bengaluru-based DJ Vachan Chinnappa, DJ BLOT! and stand-up comedian Abish Mathew!
The carnival is a great platform for gamers to unleash their talent, according to Amitesh Rao, avid gamer and brains behind the idea. “We wanted to give the gaming community its rightful space in the entertainment industry.
The industry has it’s own space in various countries across the globe, but is very fragmented in India,” says the CEO of the company, who is now trying to integrate gaming with popular culture.
“There are gamers with various calibre. Not all of them are into full-time gaming but are equally interested in the field even,” continues Rao, who hopes to encourage even casual gamers through the gaming carnival.
The carnival is also causing a huge stir amongst ardent gamers who finally have a platform big enough to showcase their talent. “India has a huge gaming fan base with more than two thousand teams of full-time players! And this not counting the casual players,” explains Sudesh Gambhira, a 21 year old participant who has made it to the final round after playing against 150 teams from around the country! “Hopefully, this will open up more opportunities for Indian gamers in the international gaming scene,” confesses the 21 year old, who is all set to beat the other teams this Sunday!
With the idea of catering to a larger audience that goes beyond professional gamers, DJ Vachan Chinnappa who will be performing at the after party speaks, “My set list for the night consists of drum and bass, which is mostly used in background scores of games, to match the theme of an event.”
So is the DJ an avid gamer as well? “I’m more into outdoor-sy activities. I prefer working out and cycling, rather than sitting and gaming indoors,” confesses the ooru DJ who is nonetheless pumped to be playing his set.
