Abundant musical talent!
In 2007, when the music reality show Idea Star Singer began, it was a rage among music aficionados. It contributed many new talents to the industry. Exactly 10 years later, participants of that show, their mentors and those who have brainstormed the idea, reunited at a hotel in Kochi, recalling those good old days. Music director Bijibal was a guest there. The get-together sparked the idea of the team doing a musical.
Thus came out Saagaramunaruvaan, a music video featuring six participants of that season. For most of them, music is a parallel career. They took time out of their busy schedules to do this video that was released on March 1 through the YouTube channel Bodhi Silent Scape. “The 2007 show had 45 participants. It got reduced to six as others couldn’t join the project due to various reasons. But by the time we came to know about the limitation, the works behind it was almost finished. So we decided to go ahead with six persons,” says Rakesh Kesavan, music director. He was also a part of the show. Lyrics are penned by Varun J. Thilak. “I gave the music first. It is a blend of multiple genres. I tried to bring the feeling of reunion and harmony into that song,” says Rakesh.
Saagaramunaruvaan is shot against the background of a seashore. “It was shot at a beach in Kollam. We chose the beach as the lyrics have references to the ocean,” explains Rakesh.
Besides Rakesh, the video features Saritha Rajeev, Dr Bineetha Ranjith, Sreenanda P. S. Murali Ramanathan and Varun.
According to Rakesh, giving music was a complex process. “I have worked for feature films, short films, theatre groups and bands. But this one demanded a lot of my time because it has different genres and six singers. I had to arrange the music keeping all these in mind,” he adds.
The team released the video under the tagline of Star Singer. The team is happy with the response they got and Rakesh says, “I would be happy to work on more such projects.”
