Musical night: Pandit Motiram Pandit Maniram Sangeet Samaroh 2016
A jam-packed venue, a huge line to the parking area and the severe chill in the air — People patiently bore all of that, just to be part of the last day of the Pandit Motiram Pandit Maniram Sangeet Samaroh 2016.
And their wait was well rewarded when Pandit Jasraj’s famous student and a “rising star in Hindustani classical music” Ankita Joshi took over the first half of the evening. Her performance that lasted close to 45 minutes, was so spell-binding that it left Durga Jasraj, Pandit Jasraj’s daughter, in tears and a visibly emotional Panditji, who couldn’t stop smiling.
As the guests kept pouring in till the last minute, they clearly were there to catch another favourite singer, Anup Jalota. The musician who started singing his hit, Aisi laagi lagan, was received with a huge round of cheers and applause.
What followed was a night that all the guests would go on to remember. Despite the cold, guests huddled together to listen to the singer and the houseful attendance was clear proof about the popularity of the concert.
