New yuvhh' stars
For the new gen, there are two songs on their play list they would never delete. One is the album song that catapulted Nivin Pauly and Nazriya Nazim to stardom, Nenjodu Cherthu (Yuvhh), the other is Cold Water by Major Lazer featuring teen heartthrob Justin Bieber. Here is when Hanna Yasir and Hanan Yasir come in, who decided to club the song and released the mash-up on Youtube.
The siblings from Malappuram are now the rising stars on Youtube for coming up with this outstanding mashup. Ask Hanna, the master brain behind the mash-up, and she humbly says, “It was Hanan’s idea.” Her brother was away in class when she picked up the call. Hanna who just completed her first year of MBBS was home for a vacation when Hanan came up with the plan. “He is currently in standard 12 here at Alpine school in Mankada. He loves listening to western music and has been singing English music for some time now.” For those who have watched the video, it would come as a surprise to learn that Hanan is a self-taught musician whereas Hanna is trained in Carnatic music. “I used to study Carnatic but then I had to concentrate on studies so had to take a break from music. But Hanan has been watching tutorials on Youtube and is learning to play instruments as well as perfecting the English accent.”
Why these two songs? “Hanan felt that the first BGM of Cold Water is slightly similar to that of Nenjodu Cherthu, that’s how he suggested that we both should try singing it. We were home that day and that was the first time we collaborated. He has bought recording equipment, keyboard and guitar and set up a home studio here. The audio recording, video and mixing were also done by him. I just had to sit beside and sing with him.”
The siblings are quite elated at the response their video has received. “The actual makers of Nenjodu Cherthu, Sachin and Sreejith, called us and congratulated us. Sachin sir has asked us to meet him for his next project. We got a good response from Shaan Rehman and a few others from the film industry shared the video.” The sibling duo is currently taking baby steps into the world of Youtube stardom.
