Sid croons for Kerala
His band has a humungous fan following and now, he’s winning hearts with his acting chops. Meet the man with a magical voice, Siddharth Menon, who was in nammooru recently to perform at a gig that raised funds for victims of the Kerala floods. Founder of the highly popular Kerala-based band Thaikkudum Bridge, this Malayali lad, says, “I was one of the survivors of the Kerala floods so I know exactly how the situation is right now in the state. I’m very happy about the fact that I could be a part of such a great initiative. My family lives in Bombay, but I was in Kerala around that time, and that’s when everything happened and I was stuck for four days in this place called Chalakudy which was badly affected. So I know exactly how it feels. I had to go to the Coimbatore airport to reach Bombay, as the Kochi airport was not open.”
Having done five movies including Solo and Bangalore Days, Siddharth’s latest was an Anjali Menon film called Koode.
About the concert and aid to Kerala and Coorg flood victims, Menon adds, “I’m very happy that I could be a part of this fund-raising event that was organised by Lagori. I’m glad that so many people turned up for this beautiful cause. I had to come for rehearsals and the sound check.” The singer also had a script meeting in the city, he reveals, “There’s a director who wants to work with me so basically I had a script meeting for a Malayalam film.”
While he admits that he’s yet to prove himself as an actor, he says, “People liked me in Koode and I played Dulquer Salman’s friend in Solo. As an actor, I’m not in a position to be choosy. But still, I’m loving whatever I’m doing and happy about the fact that I’m working with great directors. Like my first film was with VK Prakash, the second was with Bejoy Nambiar who did Bollywood films like Shaitan and David. And then, as a lead, I did a film called Kadha Paranja Kadha. The next one I’m doing is a Vijay Babu production. It was supposed to start in September but now it’s been pushed forward.””
As for visiting Bengaluru, Siddharth’s a regular visitor to nammooru. “I have performed many times with my band here. I’m born and brought up in Bombay, so Bangalore also has the same vibe. Yeah, it definitely has better weather than Bombay, but the traffic back home is better!”
On the music front, the crooner has taken a break from his band Thaikkudum Bridge, to focus on his acting career. “I’m busy shooting right now and I’m doing Siddharth Menon Live. I’m also composing music for the film I’m acting in my plan is to act in the movie, compose and sing in it,” he smiles.
