From BLACKPINK Jisoo to BTS V: K Pop Idols in Korean Dramas
Korean entertainment is gaining fan base across the globe. K-pop and K-dramas have become the buzz word among the youth, specially teen girls. The K-pop idols are also multi-talented exhibiting their skills in singing, acting and dancing, to consolidate their fan following.
The iconic idols are easily taking to acting as they are approached for essaying roles in dramas, given the huge fandom they enjoy across the globe.
Now, let us look at some prominent idols who have starred in successful South Korean shows.
BTS V
V, aka Kim Taehyung, the K-pop idol who stole the heart of many young girls with his enigmatic looks, had made his acting debut in 'Hwarang:The Poet Warrior Youth'. The story is about a group of warriors who undergo training to protect their kingdom. V played the role of Seok Han-sung, who is a warm and kind personality, but feels burdened due to carrying the name of the last Seonggol of his clan. Watch the show on Netflix.
BLACKPINK Jisoo
Jisoo made her acting debut as a female lead in 'Snowdrop' where she was paired with Jung Hae-in. The drama set in 1987 shows how Youngro falls in love with Suho, a North Korean spy. Soon, Jisoo will be seen in 'Influenza' which has been picturised basing on a novel authored by Han Sang-woon. The drama series will narrate a zombie apocalypse that occurs before the lead couple decide to break up.
ASTRO Cha Eun Woo
Cha Eun Woo made his acting debut with 'My Brilliant Life' in 2014. He played a minor role in the drama but rose to fame with 'Gangnam Beauty' in 2018. In 2019, he acted in the historical drama Rookie Historian 'Goo Hae-ryung'. The next year, in 2020, he won international acclaim for essaying the role of Suho in K-drama 'True Beauty' in 2020. Later, he starred in the web series 'Island', now streaming on Prime Video. Woo is also acting in webtoon-based fantasy romance drama 'A Good Day to Be a Dog' which will be released soon.
SF9's Rowoon
Rowoon began his acting stint playing a minor role in K-drama 'School 2017'. However, he gained popularity with his role in 'Extraordinary You' in 2019 which shows a high school girl who discovers that she is living in a fantasy world of comics. Rawoon acted in the role of Haru, an extra character in the world of a comic book. Later, he starred in hit shows including 'She Would Never Know', 'The King's Affection', and 'Tomorrow' and is currently appearing in 'Destined With You'.
I.O.I's Kim Se-jeong
Kim Se-jeong became popular after acting in 'The Uncanny Counter' and 'Business Proposal', both streaming on Netflix. In 'Uncanny counter', she essayed the role of a superhero trying to protect the entire world from some evil spirits. Her versatility lies in playing completely different roles every time. In 2017, she acted in 'School 2017' as the lead character. In 'Business Proposal', a rom-com, she was seen as Shin Ha-ri.
