Meet the Mallu Anthem' man
Rinosh George might not be a familiar name for Keralites, but it is hard to say that you have not heard about ‘I’m a Mallu’, which has become an anthem for Keralites settled out of state. The music video directed, composed and written by Rinosh, apart from essaying the lead role, has become a new sensation on social media sites as the video has become viral within two days of it reaching YouTube.
This is Rinosh’s second music video after the popular ‘This is Bengaluru’ and yes, he is settled in Bengaluru. “My ‘This is Bengaluru’ went viral on YouTube when my friend - Ayyapante Amma Neyyappam Chuttu fame actor Paul Mathew, son of late ad filmmaker Mathew Paul, asked me why I shouldn’t write a song on Mallu which can be made another music video.
That conversation became an inspiration and I sat to write the lyrics,” says Rinosh, who penned lyrics in English adding a few Malayalam words. When you go to North India, though you are a Keralite, you will be generally called Madrasi. Like that, Mallu is the commonly used term in South India by non-Malayalis refer to Keralites.
Rinosh, who currently works as a Radio Jockey, could easily find a producer for ‘I’m a Mallu’, thanks to his previous work. “When my first video, which was produced by myself, went viral, many people approached me to fund my next work. Among them was ‘Pepper Media’. When I completed composing, they agreed to become the investor,” says the singer, who has attached Malayalis’ proud factor such as food style, lifestyle and film culture in the song. Rinosh, who hails from Kakkanad in Ernakulam, is happy that he is getting good response from Malayalis around the globe.
“I am a Mallu and what you see in the video is what I wanted to say aloud. And the happiest factor is that all those who watched the video are giving good comments for this work,” he says adding, “Some of my friends who are fans of mega star Mammootty have pointed out that I have not used his name when some other actors are being mentioned in the lyrics. What I wanted to tell them is that I am also a fan of Mammookka and my next song, which is ready, gives prominence to him.” The singer-director, who has acted in certain short films, doesn’t hide his acting dreams. “I want to become a good actor and yes, I want to become part of film industry.”
