Off to a great start!
This Chennai girl’s voice is all over the radio, and she’s most certainly on cloud nine! Meet Niranjana Ramanan, the pretty lady who crooned the song Akka Petha Jakkavandi, from the movie Marthu. Composed by D Imman, she’s sung alongside Anirudh Ravichander, for her first-ever time singing playback in Kollywood! She shares her experience of singing the song, as well as her future plans.
When asked how she got the opportunity to sing for Imman — “It actually happened by chance. I had gone to the studio to sing only the chorus, but Imman asked me to sing the entire track. To my surprise, it got finalised and when I was done, he said he really liked my voice and tone,” says the ecstatic Niranjana.
Playback singing is always something she wanted to do, and here’s why. “I’ve dreamt of listening to my voice inside Sathyam Cinemas! It is a big thing for me because every emotion is magnified in a theatre, with the reverberation kept intact. The sound system amplifies and magnifies a singer’s tone, so I’ve always wanted to sing playback just to listen to my own voice,” she smiles.
Niranjana adds how happy she is, to be able to debut under Imman’s music direction — “He is the best composer I could work with. He’s the sweetest person ever and waited patiently until I understood the feel and emotion of Akka Petha… He didn’t get irritated, no matter how many takes it took,” she says adding, “I’m equally lucky that my first song happened with a sensation like Anirudh Ravichander. I felt that our voices matched really well.”
When asked which actress she thinks her voice would suit best, “I think my voice would suit Ritika Singh of Irudhu Suttru, among the new actresses. Apart from her, I think my voice would suit Jothika best as she is my most favourite actress!” says Niranjana.
She also had a major fan-girl moment recently, when she met her idol, Isaignani Ilayaraaja — and hopes to work with him soon. “As of now I am working on getting out some covers of my favourite songs,” she concludes.
