Ooru's musical blue'mers: Bengaluru band talks about their music, influences
BlueFrog, Hard Rock Café, Indigo live, The Humming Tree and Opus are just a few of the places Blues Before Sunrise have performed at. As their name suggests, the band mostly performs Blues music and even a little Funk.
The Bengaluru based band comprising of Sheela, Claude, Jason, Jatin and Sidharth, have also performed at Chennai, Hyderabad and even at weddings in Jaipur and Mangalore! and are all set to release their first ever single! In conversation with the members, we get to know more about their gigs, upcoming projects, and most memorable moments.
One of the youngest bands in Bengaluru, Blues Before Sunrise is known for their energetic and upbeat sets. "A typical show for us can have guitars, keyboards, a harmonica, trumpet, side guitar and even melodica! This gives our audience a varied and unique experience," they say.
"Inspiration for us comes from anywhere and not necessarily only music. As a band, we are hugely influenced by Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, BB King, Stevie Wonder, and John Mayer among a few," Sidharth states.
The members of the band though, aren't into Blues Before Sunrise alone. Claude Loren, the drummer/percussionist is an ace wedding photographer while the rest of the members work at corporates. "The last thing we want to do is look at our band and music as something we need to compare with other people. It just sucks the fun out of the whole thing," Sheela explain about dealing with competition.
"We don't look at other bands and musicians as competition. In fact we look at them as potential collaboration opportunities!" Jason says. "One of the most memorable moments we had was when Sheela, the lead singer, poked her eye before a show and had to sing half blind, with a bandage on!" Sidharth says, laughing about the most fun and memorable moment on stage.
Over the last couple of years, they have worked with some of India's leading musicians and would like to see themselves performing at music festivals like NH7 or MAD. The band which has also been focusing primarily on covers, is finally all set to put out original material this year.
"Our first single 'Dance With Me Tonight' is all set to release in the next couple of weeks along with our very first music video, and we hope to release our first album that we are currently working on, at the end of the year," the band reveals excitedly.
