If you are been following music trends, it is unlikely you would have missed Two-Seater Melodies. This two piece act with Shweta Sinha(vocalist) and Ritwik Bhattacharya made waves on YouTube with their cover music videos of popular English songs before they began performing live. The massive online response to these videos led them to take their act online. They tell us about their quick spin into live music, their journey in the last year and the one thing that keeps the world going around: music.
Nothing can describe Two-Seater Melodies better than “soul.” Shweta a brand and advertising consultant, says, “Our music is very soulful. It is a combination of acoustic pop and rock as well as folk-rock. I’ve always loved music but I had never done anything about it. When Ritwik and I started jamming it was fun and he really encouraged me to take the singing forward. With the Youtube channel, a lot of people began requesting for gigs live and that’s how we became a live acoustic two-piece.”
Pink Floyd, Simon and Garfunkel and Beatles are some of their biggest musical influences. Both of them hail from families where they grew up listening to music of various genres. Ritwik, who began playing guitar at the age of five is a teacher at a music school in the city. He met Shweta at the same school where she was taking music lesson. A shared love for music and singing resulted in their collaboration. “The response for our video was unexpected. We never considered the fact that what we have today was going to be a real possibility,” he says.
Although they began their gigs with requests for covers the two have been performing their own compositions for the eager crowds too! “I think in words and Ritwik thinks in music. Composing music together works beautifully for us, as I can articulate our thoughts and experiences in words and give a melody to it. But, the emotion, feel and sound is all Ritwik,” says Shweta. They are currently in the process of recording, their yet untitled EP which they hope to play live soon too. Two-Seater Melodies is more than ready to give the world a taste of their own soulful music while writing their own original compositions.
