in Rap'tures on the net!
Young Bengalureans love hip hop and are taking to rap music with aplomb, with some even taking it to a more professional level. Pruthvi Bariti from Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology is impressing hip hop lovers with his rap staccato and thanks to his music videos on his youtube channel.
“When studying in the 11th standard, I took part in an event at my school. Everyone appreciated my music and that gave me the confidence to rap. I have always been interested in listening to rap music, and would hear songs of renowned rappers like Eminem, and locally, Honey Singh too,” says the 18- year-old student. That also led him on a path of creativity, where he started writing his own lyrics, “Since I wanted to get into rap professionally, I started writing lyrics and meeting likeminded friends who are also rappers who in turn helped me.”
The self-taught Pruthvi learnt beat production and hip hop music on his own and he recalls his elation at his first music video, “It was Spoken Truth and people loved the track instantly. This boosted my confidence and I released more videos that have all garnered a good response from the audience. My youtube channel has a huge number of followers and subscribers as well.”
A multilingual rapper, his uniqueness lies in being fluent in Hindi, Kannada and Telugu. “I rap in three languages, as I feel that the quality of my lyrics are much better in Hindi and Kannada than in English. My songs are mostly based on certain truths in society and also have a message for teenagers. This also distinguishes me from other rap artists,” says Pruthvi whose youtube channel has over 3.5K followers. When not rapping, he loves playing sports like basketball and cricket.
He was also called by the famed Brodha V to perform at a rap contest. Pruthvi says, “I had sent him my song link and he liked it and invited me to be a part of the contest. I am excited, and prepping up for it. A major inspiration is popular rapper Raftaar. I learnt the flow and style of rap music by listening to his songs. My dream is to collaborate with him someday.”
The rapper is also planning to release his music album by the end of 2017 with an ultimate goal to make it big. “Though I love singing rap, I make it a point to take time out and focus on studies. In a day, I practice music for half hour, so I have time for studies,” concludes Pruthvi.
