Moves like Bragger!

The crooner who sings with her five brothers in a band, also teaches music to children with special needs.

Madhuri Braganza is a woman of many talents. Apart from re-creating soulful renditions of Amy Winehouse and Whitney Houston, she also acts, volunteers and teaches special needs children! The budding musician seems to have already made a name for herself by hosting tonnes of Karaoke nights, and jamming with several bands across the city. We talk to the spunky 26-year-old about juggling careers, stints with music, and more...

It seems like music has always been on the cards for this 26-year-old. “I have grown up in a musical family. Both my parents sing and all my brothers also play instruments and sing. But, I formally began learning music when I was seven,” says the formally trained pianist and vocalist. But she had no intentions of becoming a full-time musician, and went on to get her architectural degree!

“If I wasn’t a musician right now, I’d be a teacher. I used to volunteer every weekend with U&I and found it to be very fulfilling. But music has been by my side in all paths of life. At the NGO, I jam along with the kids because I know it helps them and I can see the happiness on their faces,” smiles the songstress who currently jams with the bands Hard Attack and Foolish Art, apart from performing solo.

“I haven’t felt the need to be a part of a band because I love so many genres and want to perform every kind of music. Except for death metal!” she quickly adds laughing.

The Braggers – the band Madhuri formed with her five brothers, is the only band she is currently a part of. Five brothers – what’s that like? “Crowded. But apart from that, really fun. There’s never a dull moment at home. It’s always noisy and has a very positive vibe,” adds the singer who also doubles as an actor when she can! She has been a part of around 50 or more ad shoots, a short film, and a part of web series which is all set to release early next year on Youtube.

“Juggling between things is quite a challenge because there are so many things I want to do and I love being a part of so many things at once. But I’ve learnt to take each day as it comes and try to make every day more productive than the previous,” says the singer who likes swimming and trying out new cuisine and teaching music to young children in her downtime.
