Strum'peting to life!
After a number of successful performances, Aayushi Karnik Trio, are all set for their next performance on June 2, at Hard Rock Café next month. We get the scoop from Aayushi Karnik, Legsang Sherpa and Sudhakar Prabhu on their journey, gigs, and more.
The trio who describe themselves as “simple” and make sure that it is indeed their simplicity that makes them stand apart, draw inspirations from drastically dif ferent things – “The blues have always inspired me, and then there’s YouTube. There’s so much talent online,” Aayushi says excitedly while Legsang and Sudhakar are inspired by life and chaos! “I have been playing the guitar since I was an eight-year-old. Music keeps me going. It’s like a therapist who doesn’t charge a rupee,” says Aayushi on a more serious note. The band is largely inspired by blues and makes their own music and experiments with music, making sound with the guitar, bass and drums.
The band that is just a few gigs old, has already made it big and performed at Bacardi NH7 Weekender in Pune, and at BFlat Bar in the city recently. “I posted online asking if anybody wanted to start a band with me, and Sudhakar got in touch!” says Aayushi the lead guitarist. “Sudhakar and I were part of a band and used to perform together. I had watched Aayushi’s videos on YouTube and was amazed at her guitar skills. So when Sudhakar asked if I wanted to perform with them at NH7, I said yes, without giving it a second thought,” spills Legsang on how the band came to be.
For a band that has already taken the city by storm, what are some of the other places that they want to perform at? “My most memorable moment was our first gig as Aayushi Karnik Trio. For me, no stage is small or big. I love being on stage and playing in front of people,” says Legsang diplomatically. The bass guitarist confesses that Jimmy Page has been a huge influence on him. “The band is primarily Bengaluru based and the crowd here makes us feel so comfortable and welcoming! But I want to make our presence felt outside the country in the near future,” says Sudhakar, manager and drummer of the band, in conclusion.
