A vibe of lucky lilts
From his musical debut in Na Tum Jano Na Hum to his most recent Safarnama, Lucky Ali managed to encapsulate audiences with his melodious voice.
And after five whole years, the Indie pop legend is all set for his next big release, its name yet to be decided. In conversation with the musical maestro, we get the scoop on his latest release, Bengaluru roots, and more...
Doing what he loves the most, the artiste who recently performed at a show hosted by Red FM, tells us a little about his latest release. “It’s not an album per se, because it’s not coming from a music label, It’s our own private release and we are going to give it to the public, and our own technical team is working that out,” he explains.
While his fans are ecstatic about his release, Ali tells us what he is most excited about. “Everything from the music to sounds and even the technology is new. And, many different artistes from different places have worked on this, so this is more of a compilation and is something we really enjoy. This compilation is part of the stuff we hadn’t released earlier. And I’ve reproduced a couple of tracks from my earlier album which wasn’t released so I’ve re-interpreted it and now believe it’s ready to come out,” he adds.
The unique part of this new release, is that the legend is touring the country! “The concerts we are doing are among the last ones and my band is being prepped for the new stuff and expressions. We are going to carry on what we have been doing,” he says referring to his band LAB 1 or Lucky Ali Band, who he works with for film music, before adding, “”The upcoming LAB – 2 will be more jazzy and inspired from our earlier works.”
After spending a good chunk of his life in namma ooru, Ali still believes Bengaluru is home. “My creative element lies in this city. All my music, it all started here in Bengaluru. Places like Cubbon Park and the amazing food – the idli, vada, sambar, Sreeraj Lassi bar and Koshy’s are my earliest memories of this city. It is a city which encourages life, not just music. I think that way, all our cities do. We have to find the way to get inspired by them,” he smiles.
As for the audience here, Ali believes that they aren’t very different. “All over India, we have the same mindset and that such a massive connect. It is also very encouraging because unlike different parts of the world we aren’t always competing against each other. There is a sense of oneness here which is what makes India so different from the rest of the world,” he pipes in conclusion.
