K pop idols who debuted at Cannes Film Festival
Queen of K Pop, BoA, was the first K Pop idol to attend the Cannes Festival in 2006. BoA, the acronym for Beat of Angel, arrived on the red carpet with Avril Lavigne, a Canadian singer-songwriter, and the duo looked nothing short of stunning.
In 2019, former SNSD member Jessica Jung made her debut at the Cannes. She attended the screening of Solo: A star wars story during the 71st annual Cannes Film Festival.
In 2022, Lee Ji-eun, popularly known by her stage name IU, made her dazzling debut at Cannes 2022 after her film Broker was selected by the jury to compete at the international film festival.
Singer-turned-actor Yim Siwan was the first male K Pop idol to be invited to Cannes. Siwan’s film ‘The Merciless’ received a standing ovation for 7 minutes at the festival.
This year, Blackpink’s Rose made her debut at the Cannes. In a black slip-on, she looked mesmerizing at the film festival. Blackpink’s Jennie is also set to make her Cannes debut this year.
Other K pop starts to attend the 76th Cannes Film Festival include Krystal Jung for her upcoming film Cobweb.
BIBI, South Korean solo artist of the Feel Ghood Music, is also set to make her presence felt at this globally celebrated event, along with the cast of her film ‘Hopeless’.
Another South Korean girl group Aespa will be the first K Pop group to attend Cannes Festival 2023. Karina, Giselle, Winter and Ningning will reportedly be attending the event for Swiss jewellery and watch brand Chopard, for which they are global ambassadors.
