Together in the journey of music
When he overheard his parents’ plan to find him a bride, RJ Vishakh’s only demand was that she should be capable of enjoying music. It was that search that reached Aymanam in Kottayam district, where his bride-to-be Surya Suresh lived. And more than what he wished, Surya was not just a music buff, but also a Carnatic musician.
“As I love music from childhood, my only dream about my life partner was that she should be capable to back my music ventures. Though I am a graduate in mechanical engineering and is currently working with a different sector in Bengaluru, my dreams are always connected with music,” says the man behind Tere Naina-Vellaipookkal mashup cover song which he did under the banner MC Road Connects, with his wife Surya, who also holds a post-graduate degree in Physics.
“From my childhood itself, I was interested in experimenting with music. Though I had participated in several events, I didn’t want to form a band or a music team. It was after our marriage, we decided to form a small band, which could become a platform for musical experiments,” says Vishakh, adding that finding a name was a big task for the couple.
“We went through many names including Kothamangalam Café, but we did not find those interesting. Moreover, many bands are here carrying the name of a particular place. It was then we thought about MC Road, which connects our hometowns — Kottayam and Thiruvananthapu- ram and it just clicked,” he remembers how they zeroed in on the name MC Road Connects.
They are planning to come up with more ventures.
“In our first cover, we had mixed the tracks of Tere Naina from Chandni Chowk to China and Vellai Pookkal from Kannathil Muthamittal just because both are composed in Hamsadhwani raga. Our next project also will be a cover. But along with that, we would come up with our compositions which will be written by my wife who had earlier participated in various reality shows,” he sums up.
