For the longest time, musicians have been recording their albums in well-equipped, high-end studios. But today, a large number of the youth are musically inclined and can’t afford the high rates of these studios. From recording in bathrooms to lifts, today’s musically-inclined youngsters have come up with quirky and affordable alternatives to get the perfect sound!
Long gone are the days when music recorded on laptops was described as ‘plastic sounding’. Today’s brilliant technology has made it possible to edit recordings and make it sound exactly the way one needs it to.
“In my free time I like to experiment with tunes on my guitar and create my own sound. I found the perfect spot in my bedroom where I play the guitar sing and record music in between my curtains to reduce the echo. Then, I edit out the ambience sound using a software on my laptop,” says VIhan Damaris, a local musician.
While recording at home is more feasible for some, for others it’s a massive challenge, that they seem eager to accept! “Eventually, I want to become a music producer so creating tracks on my own system with the help of software online, is a good experience for me. I try to utilise various sounds and try to make music from it. Usually nature sounds like birds chirping and wind blowing, adds a soothing ambience to certain tracks,” explains Joy Dutta, who is find of recording tracks in parks.
The trend of creating music clearly seems to have evolved. While big stars are able to afford long studio sessions in exotic locations where they can make music in peace, youngsters seem to be making do with what is freely available to them.
“The recording industry’s growth has simultaneously encouraged the growth of software for digital music which has ended up making sounds disposable. Hence, they are easier to create at home. Editing software like Audacity and Adobe’s Audition, are making it easier to create sounds at home. But a good recording environment as well as a well trained sound engineer are the basic requirements of a full fledged album, as they know the tips and tricks of the trade well,” says Sam Prashant, a sound engineer.
