Touch of Andalusia
Having brought the distinguished guitarist Denis Stern of St. Petersburg in Russia, the Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music (SAM), will be presenting the flamenco guitarist Manuel Alonso for the first time in India. He is the first Mexican to have obtained a superior degree in Flamenco from the Superior School of Music of Catalonia (ESMUC). His specialisation and appreciation for the musical traditions of Latin America has enabled him to create a fusion of Latin American music with flamenco.
The city’s guitar enthusiasts can have a hands-on learning experience with the flamenco maestro. “It’s all about teaching a part of I want to share the principal elements of flamenco music and its use in modern music like jazz and Latin music. The most important thing in flamenco is rhythm and improvisation. In this way, I can show my particular point of view of flamenco and my different influences,” shared Alonso while speaking on his master plan during a 3-day residential music camp in the city.
Nowadays flamenco is international music, also played on other instruments and not only the spanish guitar. He will be directing the course for all instrument players and the camp will be on till July 2. This would be his first exposure to India and he is already planning to take in more cities. “After the summer camp, I would like to travel to other cities and learn more about Indian culture” he says in conclusion.
