Taylor Swift Takes Center Stage at 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards
It was a big night for the pop idol Taylor Swift who emerged with four major accolades including Best Artist at the MTV Europe Music Awards held in Manchester, England. The pop star leading the entire pack had seven accolades to her name but managed to win Best Live Act, Best US Act, Best Video with Post Malone for the song Fortnight and Best Artist. Taylor has been recently performing her Eras Tour in N. America sent a video message thanking her fans, saying: “The fact that you have honored the tour, everything that’s happened with the album this year, the video, it’s just unbelievable.” Earlier this April, the singer released her album The Tortured Poets Department which was her last album.
The award ceremonies took off in style after the fracas in Gaza had led to the cancellation of last year’s ceremony that had been held in Paris. The event was held at the Manchester’s Co-Op Live venue and included several touching moments including the fact that former One Direction member Liam Payne who unfortunately died last month was paid tributes. Rita Ora has hosted the awards for 3 times now and in this particular case was the first person to pay tribute to Liam. Tearfully she stated “He was one of the guys who belonged in the MTV and mine in even MTV was where he had the biggest impact, bless him.”
Other notable winners of the evening included Sabrina Carpenter, who won Best Song for "Espresso," Ariana Grande, who took home Best Pop, and Eminem, who won Best Hip-Hop. BTS member Jimin claimed Best K-Pop, Peso Pluma won Best Latin, Manchester native Liam Gallagher secured Best Rock, and Benson Boone took home Best New Act.
To top it all off, they close the night with a special medley highlight, which is also what Busta Rhymes sung which made him recipient of the Global Icon Award. The highlight of the night can be credited Pioneers awarded Pop that were also for bitten Pet Shop Boys and turned the night with Bang.
