From Gangubai to Mary Kom: Must Watch Movies on Netflix
The Hindi film industry has been blessed with quite a few unforgettable actors who embellished this art form with their performances. The content in the industry has, in the now and in future, evolved such that people are inclined towards content. At the same time, previously a few actors would usually keep their audience at the edge with their wonderful performances. From Alia Bhatt in in Gangubai Kathiawadi to Triptii Dimri in Qala, these are some of the best acts in the recent past. In this article, we look at six Indian films most sought on Netflix and best explain the Hindi film industry.
1. Gangubai Kathiawadi – Alia Bhatt
As the title and its bonny darling picture suggest, Gangubai Kathiawadi (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) is another one in the list . As a young gangster-turned-brothel owner, Alia Bhatt plays the title role in the film Kamathipura in Mumbai. As much as she remains strong and composed, there are situations that cause her to break down. One such scene is where Gangubai is seen sitting at her mother’s feet and after her father’s last breath and is helpless and as usual emotionally disturbed looking towards the camera and devastation on her face. Very few struggle with it the way Alia does in that Land on the Stake scene; she doesn’t get overly drawn in but reflects it beautifully. These days it made the pictures that were shot forward and backward tough – able and one at that.
2. Tamasha - Ranbir Kapoor
More than anything else, Ranbir Kapoor proves to critics and audiences alike that he has learned the fiery passion of acting in Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha. The character, Ved Vardhan Sahni, is portrayed as one who severely battles the strain of trauma and social undertones. In the Corsican countryside, he is a free spirited tourist masquerading as a character from a film, while in Delhi, he is a tormented soul full of frustration. Deepika Padukone's character rejecting his marriage proposal is a moment one could never forget. It is Tamasha where we see Ranbir in probably his finest avatar as an actor.
3. Guru - Abhishek Bachchan
The main protagonist with the name Gurukant Desai played by Abhishek Bachchan strives hard through struggles to become an affluent man in the Guru film directed by Mani Ratnam. Abhishek’s anger and ambition, determination and vulnerability are very interesting. The physical changes, the ability to express emotions like guilt, arrogance and many others tell one factor, Guru is the best thing I have done in my career.
4. Mary Kom – Priyanka Chopra
In this biographical sports drama, Priyanka Chopra’s character of Mary Kom, an Indian boxing champion happens to be one of her best performances. Directed by Omung Kumar, Priyanka prepared herself for the role, not shying from learning boxing in a bid to make her character realistic. This is particularly reflected in the way she embodies the role of a female boxer in a man’s world. It helped that Priyanka’s performance as Mary Kom the boxer, was that of a very determined woman who did not give upon her goals.
5. Qala – Triptii Dimri
As seen in Anvita Dutt’s _Qala,_ Triptii Dimri is a young aspiring singer, scarred by the trauma of her childhood, and conflicted by her relationship with her mother. The emotional and stress-torn character of Qala Manjushree, a performer facing emotional trauma due to her abandonment, makes me weep. Her portrayal of vulnerability and a tortured actress was exceptional in this psychological drama in 2022. She has lovely chemistry with Babil Khan as Jagan, her father in the film.
6. Rajneeti – Katrina Kaif
The role of Indu Pratap Singh in Prakash Jha's political drama Rajneeti surprised everyone including Katrina Kaif. Coming out of their eyes from watching the rom-coms, Katrina played a role which transcends from being simply a girl falling in love to the head of state of Madhya Pradesh. It is one filming event that one will proudly regard. Ajay Devgn, Nana Patekar and Ranbir Kapoor complete the star-studded with every individual bringing and addition to how engaging the film is.
Before jumping in with the chisel and hammer and bashing out this art project on the moving images, it is better to bring a newbie up to speed with regards to particular films. It has to be noted that all these films are not only exceptional in terms of acting of the performers but are even better in terms of storytelling, and this is how Hindi films have evolved. Those who appreciate interesting acting should definitely watch these six paintings on the wall which Netflix is offering to its users.
