RGV announces futuristic film Syndicate to redeem his cinematic past

Maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, in a recent confession, expressed regret for not setting his 1998 film Sathya as the benchmark for his career. He promised that every future project would honor the original reasons that led him to pursue filmmaking. Now, Varma has announced his next film, titled Syndicate.

In a post on his X timeline, Ram Gopal Varma revealed that he has vowed to redeem his cinematic past with Syndicate. He mentioned that the cast and other details would be unveiled soon.

He wrote, “Following my confession about Satya, I decided to make the biggest film ever. It’s called Syndicate, and it’s about a terrifying organization that threatens India’s very existence.”

Varma goes on to elaborate on the concept of his new film:

“Street gangs, which flourished until the 70s, were wiped out when they were absorbed into hardline political parties. Later, smugglers, capitalizing on the demand for goods like electronics and gold, emerged but were eventually crushed by economic reforms. Then came the deadly corporate gangs like D COMPANY, who also met their end.

“Similarly, early Black September terrorists seemed insignificant compared to Al Qaeda, and Al Qaeda paled in comparison to the horrific ISIS group. In the last 10-15 years, India hasn’t seen any notable criminal organizations, but with the increasing polarization in the country, the time is ripe for a new criminal force to rise. This organization, unlike its predecessors, will form an alliance with various groups, including law enforcement, politicians, ultra-wealthy businessmen, and the military, thus creating a ‘Syndicate.’

Syndicate is a futuristic story, not set far in the future, but something that could happen as soon as tomorrow or next week. For instance, the world awoke to the existence of Al Qaeda on September 11, 2001, when it had remained unknown the day before. The film begins with the statement, 'Only man can be the most terrifying animal.'

“This sets the stage for a series of unimaginable, terrifying, and intricately calculated events, orchestrated by a shadowy organization called the Syndicate, whose sole aim is to replace India with a new India.

Syndicate will be a terrifying film, not because of supernatural elements, but because it will expose the horrors human beings are capable of. It will explore the cyclical nature of crime and terror, proving that while we have our victories, the dark truth is that crime and terror never truly die.”
