RGV Bids Adieu to Political Themes?
Hyderabad: Maverick director Ram Gopal Varma has announced that he would stay away from dishing out ‘political thrillers’ and would stick to his kind of movies. His last release ‘Vyooham’ showing former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy as a fighter and determined politician sank without a trace and also political equations changed in the state of Andhra Pradesh post elections. “I would not be making political films from now,” he said at an event.
Earlier, RGV made some controversial films like ‘Lakshmi’s NTR’, and ‘Amma Rajyamlo Kadapa Biddalu’ with characters looking similar to real-life politicians and poked fun at a few politicians and actors too. “RGV has made a good decision,“ says a distributor. “Except for ‘Lakshmi’s NTR’ which clicked at the box office since it was made on a shoestring budget, but his other political themes had no takers,” he adds.
No doubt, RGV changed the face of Hindi cinema with his realistic gangster movie ‘Satya’ and went on to make some hard-hitting movies like ‘Company’ and ‘Sarkar’. “RGV was truly a trendsetter in Telugu and Bollywood films with his horror and gangster movies. However, he lost his Midas touch of late, now that he is promoting new talent, let us wish him good luck,’ he concludes.
