Sai Pallavi Wanted National Award for a Special Saree from Her Grandmother

The actor reveals her sentimental connection to the award, linked to a cherished family gift

Many fans hoped Sai Pallavi would win a National Award last year for her stellar performance in Gargi. However, the honor eventually went to Nithya Menen for Thiruchitrambalam. In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, Sai Pallavi revealed that she did wish to win the prestigious award, but for a deeply personal reason.

The actor shared that her desire for the National Award stemmed from a special gift—a saree from her grandmother. Recalling the sentimental connection, she said, “When I was around 21, my granny gave me a saree and told me to wear it for my wedding. At that time, she was unwell and had undergone surgery. I hadn't even done my first film yet.”

As her career progressed with films like Premam, her aspirations evolved. “I thought, okay, someday I’ll win a big award. For me, the National Award became synonymous with that saree. It’s not about pressure but a personal sentiment,” she explained.

Despite this, Sai Pallavi emphasized that true fulfillment comes from audience appreciation. “If people feel what my character feels on-screen, that’s my job. Everything else is just a bonus,” she said. Though she may not have won the National Award yet, her heartfelt reasoning has won the admiration of fans.
