A Krishi'matic actress!
From the land of beauty and valour, comes another actress to shine on the silver screen. The Coorg beauty and former Miss Karnataka (2014) Krishi Thapanda who made her debut with Akira, is on a wonderful cinematic journey with at least five more movies to release including a Tamil fim, Nae meaning emotions. She speaks to Bengaluru Chronicle about her films, her journey so far and much more.
“Technically Kahi is my first movie which I had signed but Akira released first. Presently, I am busy with five more movies including Nae which is in the post production stage. The rest are all Kannada films — Alpa Virama, Eredu Kanasu, Kannadakkagi Ondhanna Othhi (Press One for Kannada) and Aira.
“I am really motivated by the response I got. I come from a background with no filmy connections and even in my wildest dreams, I never thought I would become an actress. Forget being an actress, I had no serious aspirations either. I was happily sailing in my own world,” says Krishi.
It was only after she came to Bengaluru post her second year PUC for further studies, that things took a turn, when a friend asked her to participate in the Miss Karnataka competition. “When I landed in Bengaluru to continue my studies (Diploma in Information Technology), I gave it a shot and auditioned for the competition, although I wasn’t serious. All I did was to send a brief profile about myself with a couple of selfies attached to it. But I was honest in whatever I did. I was selected and I won the title. Later, it was one of the casting directors who insisted that I should be a part of the film. Till then, I was totally clueless about films but eventually grabbed the opportunity,” she adds.
However, after her filmy journey took off on a promising note, Krishi feels that she is meant for films. “I feel I was wholly and solely made for films which I had never realised until I ventured into it. Though I had no idea about the entire film making process, I never feared facing the camera and I’m glad that the industry treated me well. I am fortunate to be offered so many different roles when I am just starting out,” she says.
“For Instance, in Kahi which is another great experimental film made with a moderate budget, I play the role of a Montessori school teacher, writer and a housewife. The subject is very realistic and is close to normal life. I play the role of a normal girl, like any other in day to day life. It is about four different characters who are not linked to each other. The entire team is new but is enthusiastic and eager to showcase an honest piece of work. Also, with the present scenario of audiences supporting experimental movies, we are very sure that it will win everyone’s hearts.”
Before she concludes, she also reveals that another film, Alpa Virama is in the offing and that she plays a multi-shaded character. “I only aim to do better in the future,” she says.
