Act one; two roles
Ever since the small screen started shining bright, embracing talents from all across, it has been one of the most preferred destinations for artistes and technician. Besides providing the much needed boost to one’s career, the recognition is doing wonders to many who aspire to realise their dreams. One such talent who hails from Belagavi, a beautiful city with rich culture and tradition, has struck a golden opportunity to play the ‘double role’ in her debut venture Amruthavarshini on Star Suvarna at 9 pm between Mondays and Saturdays. Akshata Deshpande talks about her journey from North Karnataka, on make it in the world of entertainment and more.
“I had been attending auditions for various television shows for some time now. Whenever I learnt about the auditions for new tele-serials, I would travel all the way from Belagavi to Bengaluru, which takes at least eight hours by road. I would land here and run straight to the studio with a hope to make it to the show. These days, talents from all across the state and even Kannadigas from other states come to showcase their talent. With more opportunities being offered, the task has become more challenging. But eventually, the best of talents make it which is all worthy of giving an attempt,” says Akshata.
On how she developed the interest in acting, she says that growing up in place like Belagavi, it was always the extra curricular activities in school and college which attracted her more and she realised her interests in the field of performing arts.
“I am presently pursuing my graduation in B.Com. I have currently taken special permission to skip the regular classes, so as to pursue my interest in acting. After several attempts, I finally made it to the show Amruthavarshini, which revolves around the tale of two sisters, who are twins by birth. I couldn’t have been happier as I got to do play a double role in my debut as an actor. However, I soon realised that it is a challenging task and I am learning the art while at work with great support from the entire team of Amruthavarshini and the Star Suvarna channel,” she says.
She further explains that the twin sister's role has two different shades to it. “I always loved movies with double roles but now I realise the amount of work that goes into making it look picture perfect. It involves a lot of technicalities. It's such a great opportunity to learn all of it in my first venture itself. In fact, when the first episode was aired, my own parents, family and friends were wondering whether it was me who was acting in two roles,” she smiles.
As she signs off, she reveals that she would have chosen to become an air hostess, if not for acting. “I love modelling but it was a challenge as I am not very tall. So, acting was always my first choice,” she adds.
