In the driver’s seat
Like many aspiring talents, she too wanted to become an actress. With no godfather, she started attending auditions for television shows, running from pillar to post along with her mother while she was still a high school student. Actress Vaishnavi, the female lead in the popular Mithuna Rashi teleserial on Colors Kannada, plays the character of a girl who supports her family by driving an auto rickshaw. She talks about her passion for acting and her future prospects.
“Everyone in their childhood, face this typical question on what they want to become when they grow up. My answer was always to become an actress and it never changed but with no one in my family ever having any connections with the entertainment industry, I was clueless on how to make an entry. It is my mother who supported my dream and once when I expressed my wish to act, she accompanied me to every audition thereafter. I was still studying in ninth standard from Nivedita School in Hanumanthanagar. Meanwhile, due to health issues, I had to put a break on my dreams for a while but soon a year later, I managed to grab an opportunity to play a character in the crime based programme called Shantham Papam for an episode,” says Vaishnavi.
Vaishnavi's fortune started shining bright as it lead to her big break. She says, “Soon after my act in Shantam Papam, I was asked to attend an audition for a lead role. With no big hopes, I attended it. I had faced similar situations in the past too. I would be called to the audition and at the final moment, I would be replaced by another artiste for the role. In fact, I was in total disbelief when Colors Kannada channel informed me that I was selected to play the lead,” she added.
However, the character she was selected to portray, had to have the skills of driving an auto rickshaw. Mithuna Rashi, has a completely different concept and it is not a typical family drama. It focuses on women with a realistic touch. “I had to drive the auto rickshaw and the team helped me with it. Many even questioned on why I was doing such a role which is never done but I was confident that I could pull it off as it inspires all those women who are seeking financial independence and fight gender inequality. After the serial started airing, a lot of such women appreciated the serial which is one of the reasons behind its huge success,” Vaishnavi explains.
Furthermore, the serial revolves around the fate of the characters based on the astrological beliefs, to which the actress shares that “There are lot of fake astrologers who falsely predict the future of a person for the sake of monetary benefits. This serves as a caution too. However, there are predictions by a few reliable astrologers, but it depends on one's beliefs in them.”
About her future prospects, Vaishnavi says that she has been managing her studies along with her passion towards acting. “I have been getting film offers but I am wary of fake offers and wish to make my debut in a meaningful project under a prestigious banner,” she wrapsup.
