Jolly Days for Praveen
The next proposed technology of 5G with a cost of Rs 500 has already inspired the Sandalwood industry and resulted in the creation of 5th Generation. This film marks the return of actor Praveen who was last seen in Simple Suni’s ambitious sequel Simpallag Innondh Love Story.
The actor, who hails from Shivmogga made his debut with Jolly Days. He became a household name with the popular teleserial Radha Kalyana. In Guruvendra Shetty’s 5th Generation, the demonetised Rs 500 currency and Mahatma Gandhi play a unique role along with Praveen and Nidhi Subbaiah in the lead.
Praveen talks about the film, (which is ready to hit the screens this Friday), his journey from his village to Bengaluru, TV to films and more.
“After Simpallag Innondh Love Story, I heard at least five to six scripts and most of them seemed regular with no new elements in them. This was when the Kannada film industry started witnessing a new set of audience encouraging experimental cinema. I wanted to be a part of something new instead of the usual genre of commercial films. And, when I heard the 5th Generation script, I was initially hesitant as I wondered whether such a script can be effectively made into a film as it combines the elements of fantasy along with Gandhian values,” says Praveen.
The actor who hails from Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district started his journey as a TV anchor. Soon he joined the theatre, performing dramas in order to hone his craft as an actor. Soon, he made his acting debut with Jolly Days, which was a remake of the Telugu superhit Happy Days. Praveen next was cast in the popular Kannada teleserial Radha Kalyana, where he played the lead for over four years. His association with the teleserial proved fruitful, as the producer gave him his much-needed break by casting Praveen as the lead hero for Simpallag Innondh Love Story, directed by Simple Suni.
Talking about the new film, he says, “I play a character who finds himself in the company of wrong people and situations, whereas Nidhi Subbaiah plays the opposite character. The currency and the Mahatma Gandhi’s fantasy character play a vital role in the film. In a way, the film dwells into a journey of finding Gandhian values which are almost lost in the present day generation. . The beauty of the script is that it will be very entertaining.”
The film has even created a record of sorts after the Censor Board of Film Certificate (CBFC) finally granted it a U/A certificate. Praveen signs off by saying that he has two more films which are ready to hit the screens including Churi Katte, directed by the award-winning Raghu Shivamogga, and BMW which is a multi-starrer film.
