Singer-Songwriter Aseem Trivedi Enters a More Personal Chapter with New Single ‘Murshid’

Releasing on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Murshid marks a deeply personal chapter for Aseem, one rooted in honesty and vulnerability.

Singer-songwriter and composer Aseem Trivedi is set to release Murshid, a new independent single that explores themes of emotional surrender, devotion and accepting love in its imperfect form.

Releasing on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Murshid marks a deeply personal chapter for Aseem, one rooted in honesty and vulnerability.

For most people, the word Murshid is often associated with spirituality - a guide, a teacher, or a higher force that shows the way. But Aseem’s interpretation takes a deeply human turn. “To me, your Murshid could be a lover, a parent, a sibling, or even your younger self- someone you look up to, surrender to, and unknowingly allow to shape your world," says Aseem.

What sets the song apart is its subtle infusion of qawwali-inspired elements, especially in the hook, where layered vocals rise with a sense of longing and surrender. Minimal in arrangement and deliberate in every word, the song stems from an amalgamation of relationships in Aseem’s own life, spanning family, love, and personal reflection. It’s not traditional qawwali, but rather a modern interpretation—where romance meets reverence, and love feels almost divine.

Aseem Trivedi first released his single Rooh in 2019 and later composed for the acclaimed web series JL50 in 2020, continuing to shape his voice through commercial work, live performance, and independent songwriting. Over the years, live performance has remained integral to his artistic identity, including his performance during the opening act for Coldplay in India.

“I’ve spent more than half a decade doing commercial work, and I never wanted to put something out just for the sake of being an independent artist,” he says. “I always felt I’d release music when I had a thought and a song that people should truly listen to.”

That philosophy continues to shape his music today. Refusing to confine himself to one genre or sound, Aseem views every song as an extension of what he wants to communicate in that moment. “My next song could be completely different- an RnB or lounge track, for me, it’s always about what I’m trying to communicate”, he added.

With Murshid, Aseem Trivedi offers more than a love song; he opens a conversation around accepting people, embracing both their light and flaws, and understanding that love, at its core, is often imperfect.
