Sukriti Veni Bandreddi, the 14-year-old daughter of renowned director Sukumar, is all set to make her acting debut in the upcoming film Gandhi Thatha Chettu. This young talent has already shown her passion for music, learning classical music, but now she's taken her first step into the world of acting.
Sukriti’s journey into acting was unexpected, even for her father. “He never expected me to join the film industry because he always thought that I would pursue singing,” she reveals. However, when director Padmavati Malladi approached Sukumar with an offer for Sukriti to act in her movie, he was hesitant at first but eventually persuaded Sukriti to take up the opportunity.
To prepare for her role, Sukriti watched a lot of movies, analysing the behaviour of different characters and learning from the actors. She also attended workshops with director Padmavati before the shoot. Sukriti found it easy to communicate with Padmavati, appreciating the comfort of working with a woman director.
Gandhi Thatha Chettu is a film with a strong social message, telling the story of a young girl named Gandhi who uses Gandhian principles to save her village. Sukriti believes that the movie's themes of bravery, courage, and kindness make it a perfect family outing.
When asked about her experience working on the film, Sukriti mentions that understanding the character was the most challenging part. “Unless you don’t understand what that character is, what are their specialties, and what makes it special, you won’t actually be able to act the way it was planned out,” she explains.
Sukriti’s love for music remains strong, and she’s focused on pursuing a career in music. However, if she receives more opportunities in acting, she's open to exploring that path as well.
Growing up, Sukriti would often visit her father’s film sets, and she admits that she was fascinated by the control and power a director holds. “I thought that was super cool,” she recalls. “Everyone listens to him, and one word from him, and it's done immediately.”
As Sukriti prepares for her film’s release, her friends are excited to watch her on the big screen. She's looking forward to their reactions, having kept her shaved head for the movie a secret until now.
Sukriti’s favorite film is her father’s Rangasthalam which she enjoyed for its adrenaline-pumping action sequences and the Jathara sequence in Pushpa 2 which felt like out-of-body experience. “My jaw dropped and I was just staring,” she says. She’s also a fan of horror movies and thrillers, appreciating the rush of emotions they evoke.
As Sukriti embarks on this new journey, she is confident of making a mark with the movie.
