Sneh'sation on screen

Nobody would believe she was camera shy, but hey, it's true.

At 30, Sneha Kapoor epitomises “going with the flow”. The Bengaluru lass who has made a mark in Bollywood as a choreographer and has set stages ablaze on reality shows like Jalak Dhiklaa Jaa and India’s Got Talent and Dance India Dance is now going down a different path – acting. As she prepares for her role in Kanika Batra’s Project Papa, Sneha tells us why she believes the camera is her best friend.

Nobody would believe she was camera shy, but hey, it’s true. “I was very shy growing up and had stage fright. It was when my friends convinced me to do a dance performance on stage in school that it all fell in place,” she shares. An integral part of Lourdes Vijay Dance School’s troupe, she quickly changed track from wanting to be an athlete and representing India at the Olympics to taking Salsa, head on.

The Mount Carmel College alumnus has been living and breathing the character. “I even took a workshop to understand camera and acting better. I believe I’m a performer first, so one isn’t harder than the other,” she tells us about the English-Hindi feature.

The story revolves around a 29-year-old daughter who is at the threshold of her career, stressed out and overworked, who believes that happiness is a thing of the future, and her 64-year-old dad is a complete contrast; at the end of his career, he has a lot less to look forward to, and believes that happiness is a thing of the past.

“The movie explores how they both come to realise the importance of living in the now,” says Sneha.

But if there was a challenge, she says it was to step out of her own shoes and step in to that of the character, “To feel happy, sad, excited, irritated or whatever the emotion and live in the moment and put myself in the situation.”

Even as she hopes that this crowdfunded film will do its magic and bring her closer to her dreams of acting, she already knows what’s on the horizon – “I head back to Mumbai to be a part of a new dancing show for kids,” she beams.
