Our comfort level makes our chemistry work: Vishal Gandhi
Tamanna pair Anuja Sathe and Vishal Gandhi are like chalk and cheese on screen. Somehow even with their differences, the two have managed to strike a chord with the audiences.
The nok jhok and bickering between the couple has made them very relatable on screen. In a freewheeling chat, Anuja and Vishal tell us what makes them tick as the new pair on the tube.
So, how did you guys break the ice when you met for the first time on the sets?
Vishal: During the mock shoot, I was sitting alone and having my dinner. That’s when Anuja came up to me and started talking and we just clicked. We knew that we had to shoot together, so we made sure we shared a good rapport.
Was it awkward filming the romantic scenes at any point?
Anuja: It wasn’t awkward at all. We both are professionals and have a great bonding off-screen too. I guess our off-screen chemistry translates onscreen as well.
Vishal: The scenes weren’t difficult or embarrassing. Since we clicked right from our first meeting, we never felt shy or awkward with each other. In fact, we are friends today.
So, what makes your onscreen chemistry work?
Anuja: Our chemistry works because of the friendship and bond we share. I think we understand each other as co-actors and that’s what makes us click as a pair.
Vishal: The outdoor shoot schedule helped us know each other better. I think it is our comfort level with each other that makes our chemistry work.
What’s the equation with the team off-screen? How often do you burst out laughing while filming?
Anuja: A lot of times! We laugh in the middle of the scene every second day. Vishal has a great sense of humour. So he along with Waseem Sabir, the director, are like a team of comedians who continuously entertain us on the sets.
Vishal: Anuja is a Maharashtrian girl who is portraying the role of a Gujarati girl in the show. Since I am a Gujarati, I had fun watching her revise her lines. Sometimes, she couldn’t remember her lines and we had a great time watching her struggle.
Has there been any particular scene that has made its way to your heart so far?
Anuja: During the wedding sequence, when Dharaa cries and hugs her father before leaving her home, has stayed with me. I remember I’d cried the same way during my marriage.
Vishal: There will be a sequence in the show where Dharaa will be shown delivering a baby. Since I love kids, shooting that sequence became really emotional.
Is there any scene that has made you go, ‘I wish I had performed it better’?
Anuja: I think the scenes where I play cricket could have definitely been improved. I’m in love with the sport and would want to be better at it each time I play it.
Vishal: I think an actor can never be satisfied with his/her scenes. There’s always room to perform in a better way. The day the hunger or need dies, I think the actor within that person dies. So personally, I would love to do it all over again.
What’s the one thing you like and dislike about each other?
Anuja: Vishal is a very friendly, genuine guy. I dislike his short temper and the fact that he gets irritated very easily.
Vishal: I like her spontaneity and sincerity. She knows her part and delivers it well. I dislike seeing her on the phone 24/7. I understand that she is away from her family, but during the break time, you will always find her on the phone!
Have you come across any interesting fan comment on your jodi?
Anuja: There was tweet by a fan, where he had posted a picture of the sequence where I am shown saying a yes for my marriage in the show. The fans retweeted saying that’s the most “AWW-some moment” in the show.
Vishal: Fans on Twitter and Instagram have named our jodi ‘Dhamir’, a combination of Mihir and Dharaa. That’s a sweet gesture.
Where are you most likely to be found during breaks on the set?
Anuja: In my vanity van.
Vishal: I love hanging around with the team so you will always find me chilling with them.
Rapid fire:

Things you cannot do without on the sets?
Anuja: Water. I need bottles of water all the time.
Vishal: A cup of tea
Your stress buster on the sets?
Anuja: Vishal, definitely!
Vishal: If I am upset about something, I just go in my vanity and calm myself down.

Anuja: I really want to do skydiving
Vishal: I want to run away from everything and go for a mini vacation. I don’t even want to decide on a destination. I just want to pack my bags and go.
