Parul Chauhan became an overnight star, much like her contemporary Sara Khan, with the hugely popular show Bidaai. While Sara continues to do plum lead roles in the industry, Parul has had to make an uneasy transition. From playing the leading lady, she went on to essay the role of a mother to actors perhaps a few years younger than herself in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. The actress says, “I’ve evolved as an actor. I’ve said it earlier as well that I am not hesitant playing a mother onscreen. The reason behind taking up this role was because Rajanji (Shahi, the producer) personally called me. He said he wanted me to come on-board.”
The actress has taken the change in her stride, and wants to waste no time mulling over the past. She says, “I was on top during Bidaai. I took up all the good work came my way. What’s in the past is in the past; I now have a good character in hand. I’ve matured as an actor.”
The actress was missing in action for some time, but she insists that it wasn’t really the case. “I did lots of work including a film, few advertisements, and some art movies. I’ve kept myself busy. My mother too was unwell, so I was shuttling between Lucknow and Mumbai,” shares Parul.
