I'm ready to take Kapil head on: Krushna Abhishek
Krushna Abhishek is famously juggling two shows at the moment — Comedy Nights Bachao and Comedy Nights Live but that has not deterred the multifaceted performer from committing to a new show titled OMG.
The comedian is all set to host this exciting new series on History Channel. Where does he draw the energy from to run so many shows at the same time? He says, “Even I was worried about how I will balance these three shows.
Luckily there comes a phase in life where you just learn to do jugaad with time. OMG came as a breaker between the two comedy shows I am doing at the moment. There is no slapstick here and I basically get to be myself and talk about the uniqueness of people and the places in India.”
Keeping in tune with the amusing title of his new show, we ask what is his OMG moment in life. And the comedian replies, “Well my Oh My God moment is of course, replacing Kapil Sharma on his show. I was nervous and excited at the same time.”
Prod him to open up on the famous cold war between him and Kapil and he is more than willing to bare his heart on the feud. “ I guess he has an issue with me. That’s why he left the show. I was happy with Comedy Nights Bachao and didn’t have any interest in taking over his show. Since Bachao was new, we were getting high TRPs, it surpassed his show’s ratings. So Kapil and his team had an issue with that. And somewhere they also knew that they had reached a saturation point. We had a healthy competition like who would get a better TRP on the weekends, but he quit. I replaced him because he left the show.”
He continues, “When we were doing Comedy Classes, Kapil was on top and our show was not doing well. We were happy for him and never jealous. With our hard work, we too have arrived. We have a healthy career fight. There is nothing wrong in that. People like Preeti Simoes (creative director of Comedy Nights With Kapil) are escalating the rift by passing nasty comments like, ‘how can we compare ourselves to them. Our comparison to them is like comparing a Bajirao Mastani with Kya Kool Hai Hum.’ I want to tell them, I was part of Kyaa Kool Hai Hum, but where were they in Bajirao? I do feel bad when his people make such comments. But what can one do? People were angry that he (Kapil) is not there, but I am glad now that he is coming back with a show. The audience will get to see him again.”
And how is Krushna preparing for the big clash? “Earlier there was no fun because we were not at par. But now we are in neck-to-neck competition. So there obviously will be a face offs between us and I am ready to take him head on,” says Krushna.
Considering there are no permanent friends and enemies in the entertainment industry, we wonder whether the two will ever make peace. He says, “I really don’t think there can be any possibility of a ceasefire between us. But you never know.”
