Mreenal Deshraj is currently seen playing the alcoholic Jhanvi Singh Oberoi in Ishqbaaz. And to essay the role to perfection, the actress has taken inspiration from tragedy queen Meena Kumari, who essayed the role of an alcoholic wife in the yesteryear blockbuster, Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam. Mreenal says, “I am a social drinker. I have no clue what it is like to be drunk all the time. I realised the nitty gritties of an alcoholic after observing Meena Kumari in Sahib Biwi aur Ghulam. I saw the movie a couple of times to get the mannerisms right. Luckily, my hard work has paid off as everyone on the set feels that I am high because of liquor, while I am only sipping on apple juice in reality!”
Mreenal reveals that she was reluctant to take up the role initially. The creatives of the show coaxed the actress to get on board. She says, “I was nervous about taking up the role but the creatives managed to convince me. It took me a lot of time to get comfortable in front of the camera. I haven’t been getting proper rest lately, and hence I have been having drowsy eyes. So, I pretty much look the part of an alcoholic!”
