Miss Diana speaking
Subi Suresh is back to miniscreen. This time, she has taken the role of an English teacher, Miss Diana, in the sitcom Prekshakare Aavashyamundu that broadcasts on Mazhavil Manorama. Subi is hopeful about the show that has just begun its run. “Entertain ment, entertainment, entertainment… this is what Miss Diana tells her students all the time. More of her shades will be revealed in the coming episodes,” says Subi.
Kumaranasan, the character played by Kochu Preman, is the principal of the school. “There are a few other characters and the plot develops through them. Abhi ikka comes as Allavicha Majeed, who is a vendor. Then there are Sponge Pavithran, Beautician Leelamma, Bro Soman and Chacko. All of them hail from diverse backgrounds and belong to different age groups. Spoken English class has no age-restrictions, right,” she asks.
The show telecasts on every Saturday at 9.30 pm. Subi has sported a new look for the programme and has fallen in love with it. “The costume and styling were done the Mazhavil Manorama team. We had a photo shoot on the day before the shoot. But, I had no clue about the costume. When I saw it, I loved it,” she says.
Wearing the garb of a spoken English teacher was not a difficult task for Subi. “I had done numerous characters on screen while doing Cinemala. Also, I appear in different get ups on stage. So, I was not hesitant to take up this project. Also, I have been with the team since the beginning. But, I was a little hesitant to take up Kuttipattalam (her previous show) as I was doubtful whether I could handle kids.”
Although a few have kicked up a storm against the kids’ show Kuttipattalam, Subi says she was unaffected. “I was not personally affected by those developments. All those discussions have popped up only on social media. None has asked me about this in person. The Sun TV had, in fact, dropped the show two months before that allegation came,” she says and adds, “I enjoyed time spent with the kids. I learnt to be patient.”
Subi has not committed to any other projects. She finds happiness in stage shows. “My career started off with stage shows and I am still crazy about it. That is because of the team I work with – Pisharody, Dharmajan and all. Each programme is like a celebration for us. I am very comfortable with the team. Also, stage shows helps me to be financially stable,” she says.
