Review Game of Thrones 'Battle of the Bastards' : It's Jon vs Ramsay

Fans rejoiced as one of the most-awaited episodes of this season was finally aired.

Fans rejoiced as one of the most-awaited episodes of this season was finally aired. Let’s directly jump to the Battle of the Bastards (also the title of this episode) where Ramsay’s 6,000 battle Jon Snow, who has just half that number of men. We also finally see Rickon Stark. Ramsay Bolton brings him to the battlefield and asks him to run to his brother Jon, but kills him with an arrow just before he can reach Jon.

Provoked by Rickon’s death, Jon charges first, but a few minutes into the battle we realise that his army doesn’t have much chance. His men try to flee, resulting in Jon being stampeded. But just in time comes Littlefinger with the Knights of Vale, and Ramsay’s confused and horrified look says it all. He runs back to the castle, and as Jon’s army charges he suggests a “man-to-man fight”, but loses to Jon Snow.

Later, Ramsay is fed to his hounds. “They were loyal, now they are starving,” says Sansa Stark as the hounds tear into Ramsay. The episode also saw the masters of the slaves attack Meereen. After they refuse to surrender, Daenerys rides in on her dragon, burning ships and soldiers. On the other side, the Dothraki army attacks the Sons of the Harpy, who had been mercilessly killing the slaves. Later, Grey Worm is seen killing two of the masters as a “punishment”, adding a twist to this scene.

We also got to hear Daenerys’ plans to destroy the city. Tyrion warns that this is exactly what her father, the Mad King had planned, and had hidden caches of wildfire when the Lannister army was at his gates. Let’s hope Daenerys never takes that plan seriously. Meanwhile Yara Greyjoy and her brother Theon reach Meereen, and Daenerys agrees to help them take the Salt Throne back if they support her claim as the “Queen of the seven kingdoms”.

This episode surely lived up to the hype. But there are still a lot of unanswered questions lined up for next week’s 69-minute season finale, including what happens at the Tower of Joy, seen in one of Bran’s vision.
