Prodigy on a song
Some people with their extraordinary achievements make the phrase, “Age is just a number’ come true. Children nowadays are leading in this clan. Be it singing, dancing, acting or any creative platform, they not only learn what they are inclined to, but also excel in what they like. Even Malayalis who are believed to be conservative when it comes to allowing their children enter the world of fame, of late are identifying the hidden talents in them and encouraging them to showcase them.
Though the example list is too long, Vishnumaya Ramesh, is the latest to join the clan and grab the limelight. She is now getting popular as Choti Chitra.
Vishnumaya, rose to fame at the age of 7 when she first appeared in a singing reality show on Surya TV and this exceptionally talented girl didn’t have to look back from then. After participating in multiple competitions on receiving invites from various channels and winning most of them, Vishnumaya got her big break when she participated in The Rising Star aired on Colours TV. The talent that she exhibited has made this 12 –year-old a favourite of every Bollywood actor who was invited to the show and music director Shankar Mahadevan, who was among one of the judges of the show, never stopped applauding her hard work and dedication.
Sharing her feelings about the accolades she has received from the show, Vishnumaya says, “I really feel privileged to have been able to perform in front of such veteran actors, music directors and singers. Even though I am not fluent in Hindi, the remarks that I received have really boosted my confidence and given me a golden chance to learn more about music intricacies. My greatest achievement was when Shankar Mahadevan called me Choti Chitra saying that my singing reminded him of Chitra. That was unbelievable”.
Vishnumaya who was the second runner-up of the show was immensely praised by actress Rekha, who even danced to her song.
Actress Rani Mukherjee too expressing her love for Vishnumaya’s singing said that she wishes if the little talent could sing for her in any of her upcoming films.
When asked if the extent of fame that she is enjoying is taking away her time to study and play as a 12-year-old, Vishnumaya’s mother Bindu Ramesh says, “My daughter had to encounter some bitter experiences from some competitions she had participated and therefore was not confident enough to take part in the Rising Star. But it was through our compulsion that she decided to take part in the competition. However, she now feels that it is the best decision she took because she really values the appreciation she has received from the audiences as well as the celebs there and feels that it has helped her lot in moulding her love for music. As a mother I definitely feel that my child is too small to get busy to this extent but as parents we never burden her with anything. It’s completely left to her wish.”
According to her mother Vishnumaya had to face certain setbacks too. She was invited to different shows to sing along with senior male playback singers of the Malayalam industry. But after one show we saw certain interventions, which in turn could chop off her future chances; a small girl singing with this extent of perfection is not acceptable to many. However, this budding talent is here to stay!
