Writer Mahesh Pandey arrested in a cheating case
Famed Indian television scriptwriter and producer Mahesh Pandey who had been behind renowned series like Kasautii Zindagii Kay has allegedly been arrested about cheating case of Rs 2.65 crores. The entertainment industry was left stunned by these legal wrangles surrounding Pandey.
The arrest of Pandey has been confirmed by the Amboli police after a complaint was filed by film producer Jatin Sethi, according to a Times of India report. Sethi claimed that he had given Pandey 2.65 crore Indian rupees as an advance on him getting money from somewhere else but now is willing to pay back so many millions above Pandey. However, despite having received the money, Mr. Mahesh has not returned it thereby prompting his subsequent arrest.
"This man (Pandey) was arrested following Sethi's complaint," said an elderly police officer who added,” We were holding him for two days in our lockup before he was taken into judicial custody."
In relation to this incident, Rizwan Siddiquee, the lawyer representing Jatin Sethi has stated that FIR number 0487/2024 was registered at Amboli Police Station against Mahesh Pandey and his wife Madhu Mahesh Pandey among others. The applicable sections are Sections 406 and 420 along with Section 34 of IPC which is punishable under Indian Penal Code 1860 for criminal breach of trust and cheating respectively. Regarding this last point Siddiquee said in Mumbai Police arrested Pandey on August5 due to his non-cooperation since then he remains in judicial custody.

Ekta Kapoor’s Kasautii Zindagii Kay which starred Shweta Tiwari as Prerna and Cezanne Khan as her husband Anurag Basu became famous worldwide thanks to its scriptwriter Mahesh Pandey who worked tirelessly behind-the-scenes while filming took place simultaneously for these scenes between actors themselves even if they didn’t know what exactly is going on or who would win this game anyway. He also delved into production with the TV show Vidya which featured Meera Deosthale.
This arrest has come as a shock to most of his colleagues in the industry considering that Mahesh Pandey is a household name in the Indian television industry, thanks to his association with some of the country’s biggest shows.
