Thalaivar 173: Ashwath Marimuthu Is the New Director After Cibi's Exit
Following his exit, Ashwath Marimuthu, known for directing Dragon and Lucky Man, is rumored to be the next choice to lead the production.

Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan are set to collaborate on Thalaivar 173. Since its announcement, the project has become one of the most awaited films in Indian cinema.
However, reports suggest the production team is once again searching for a director.
Initially, Sundar C was attached to helm the movie at the time of its announcement, but he unexpectedly exited the project. Months later, the makers announced Cibi Chakaravarthi as the new director. If the latest reports are accurate, Chakaravarthi has also left the film.
Following his exit, Ashwath Marimuthu, known for directing Dragon and Lucky Man, is rumored to be the next choice to lead the production.
Both Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan are reportedly disappointed by these frequent changes. While the makers have yet to issue an official confirmation regarding the directorial swap, the film remains in the pre-production stage.
Although filming is expected to begin later this month with a grand theatrical release planned for Pongal 2027, the recurring departures of directors have raised concerns that the movie may not hit screens on schedule. Thalaivar 173 is produced by Red Giant Movies.
