Thandel: Naga Chaitanya Must Recover ₹40 Crore in AP/TG?

Chaitanya reunites with Sai Pallavi for Thandel, after their blockbuster Love Story, which raked in over ₹30 crore in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Young actor Naga Chaitanya is set to test his box-office pull with his upcoming film Thandel, which has reportedly been valued for ₹40 crore in the Telugu states. “He needs strong openings to justify the big investment,” says a distributor.

Chaitanya reunites with Sai Pallavi for Thandel, after their blockbuster Love Story, which raked in over ₹30 crore in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This time, the duo is taking on a film centered around fishermen and their struggles.

However, Chaitanya’s last outing, Custody, failed to impress, though his emotional drama Majili was a huge hit, earning over ₹34 crore in the Telugu market. “As an Akkineni scion, he’s evolving beyond his romantic image. This time, he’s flexing his muscles, delivering patriotic punchlines, and stepping into a full-fledged pan-India film under Chandoo Mondeti’s direction,” notes an industry insider.

To ensure a strong opening, Chaitanya has been actively promoting Thandel and is set to participate in more events leading up to its release on February 7. “The first three days are crucial for big-budget films, making this a significant challenge for both the actor and director,” the source concludes.
