Hyderabad: The Oscar-nominated docudrama film The Voice Of Hind Rajab, which has been at the centre of a heated censorship debate in India after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) rejected it previously over Israel and India relations, is reportedly secured for theatrical release in India after a fresh review by the CBFC. According to reports, the film received an A (Adults Only) rating without any cuts, paving the way for its release in Indian cinemas on June 19th, 2026.

Directed by Tunisian Filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania, the docudrama focuses on the tragic death of Hind Rajab, a five year old palestine girl who was killed during the time of conflict in Gaza. The Film has drawn international attention for its portrayal of the human cost of war and was nominated in various major international awards.

The documentary faced obstacles in India after the CBFC’s Examining Committee reportedly refused to certify it. According to reports, the main concern raised was that the film’s release could affect diplomatic sensitivities related to India - Israel relations. The decision triggered criticism from filmmakers, artists, and free speech advocates who argued that the move amounted to political censorship.

The controversy intensified when more than 90 members of the film fraternity and civil society signed an open letter condemning the reported refusal to certify the film. They urged authorities to allow audiences to view the documentary and make their own judgements.

Following the backlash, the film was referred to the revising committee for a fresh evaluation. The recent reports suggest that the committee has recommended certification, with an A certificate. The development marks a significant turnaround for the documentary and could stimulate discussions about censorship, artistic freedom, and the political considerations in film certification.

The decision is being viewed as an important test of India's commitment to independent cinema supporters. The Voice of Hind Rajab, reaching the Indian theatres, has already generated considerable interest among cinephiles and free speech organisations equally.
