A Sci-Fi from Venus!
A comedy/drama with a bit of science-fiction thrown in there for good measure makes for a killer combination. Bangalore Little Theatre’s The Boy with No Shadow perfectly blends these genres to create a masterpiece that is sure to make you laugh. The proceeds from the show will go towards the ICS (Indian Cancer Society) which will use it in the cancer treatment of underprivileged kids. The show is set to happen today and tomorrow at Alliance Francaise.
Aditye Nair who is the director of this show shares this is part of our annual children’s production. He begins, “We have been doing a fundraiser for a cause for the last four years.” Talking about how he came across the play, “We had read a few plays but came across this one from our chest of plays that we had since the inception of this theatre group. This play first premiered in the 1980s, but we have adopted it to suit this period. The old one had a lot of old English jokes that a lot of people won’t understand,” he shares adding that in preparation for the play, all the team did was a few readings. Though he refused to reveal to us the storyline, he did us a sneak view of what we can expect. Aditye says, “It tells that story of what would happen in the life of the ruling family of Venus and how a boy who becomes invisible gets caught in between due to unforeseen circumstances.” The USP of the play, Aditye says is the fact that it’s funny, colourful and might just remind of government.
Rupali Krishnan has always been a theatre enthusiast and when she saw the scene in Bengaluru, she wanted to be a part of it with her son. Talking about her role in the play she says, “I play the part of Ethlina and she is the Queen’s assistant. Ethlina’s main role is bring the Invisible boy forwards. She is a little silly and has the most out of the box ideas which adds the comical element.” Lakshmi Sunil who plays the queen talking about her character in the play says, “The Queen is kind, affectionate and peace lover. But opposite her is the General who wants to wage war with Jupiter and tries to divert the King’s mind. But, the queen knows that it won’t happen as the king is under her control.”
