No Gopala Gopala Sequel

Popular Telugu director Dolly, alias Kishore Kumar Pardasani, who remade Hindi film OMG as Gopala Gopala with two of Tollywood’s biggest stars – Pawan Kalyan and Venkatesh – and tasted massive box office success in 2015, has dropped his plans to remake the sequel, OMG 2, despite the Hindi movie being a hit too.

“It is true that we thought of remaking OMG 2 in Telugu, but we have dropped the idea since we felt that the theme is a bit too bold for the Telugu audience,” says Dolly.

However, he adds, “No doubt, OMG 2 is a wonderful film as it deals with the relevant topic of sex education among school children. With kids getting easy access to mobiles and tabs, it has become difficult for parents to control them. Parents have to guide them and schools should also join in. They should alert children on safe sex and adverse consequences of sexual activities.”

Dolly also heaped praise on Bollywood stars Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi for their sterling performances. “The introduction of Lord Shiva in the film was fantastic too,” he says.

The director feels Gopala Gopala minted gold at the box office because Telugu audiences lapped up the unusual bonhomie between Lord Krishna (Pawan Kalyan) and an atheist (Venkatesh). “Pawan and Venkatesh did a great job. The theme of belief in God is universal. Exposing fake godmen and celebrating humanism struck a chord with Telugu masses and it turned out to be a big winner,” he says.

But now, Pawan Kalyan’s fans, who saw him as the God of Time in the recent release Bro, will have to wait for some more time to watch their matinee idol in a Godly avatar.
