New age director Prashanth Varma is turning ambitious and is planning to release his much-hyped socio-fantasy ‘Hanu Man’ in various languages, including Korean and Spanish. He is also not worried about competing with big ticket movies like ‘Guntur Kaaram’ and ‘Eagle’, which are also releasing around 'Sankranthi'. He has given the VFX team ample time to work on Lord Hanuman. In an exclusive interview with Deccan Chronicle, Varma talks about his plans.
Q: Aren’t you worried about taking on biggies like Mahesh Babu and Ravi Teja during Sankranthi?
A: We are surely releasing our superhero story ‘Hanu Man’ on January 11, 2024, during Sankranthi. Our film is for everyone, irrespective of the audience. Hanu Man is a perfect movie for the entire family to watch together without feeling embarrassed, unlike other movies. We also want to attract holiday crowds so we couldn’t avoid competition from star movies. Our film is ready, but we don't know about other movies which are in various stages of production.
Q: We heard that you are planning to release your movie in Hindi and other languages?
A: We are going to woo North Indian audiences in a big way and promote our film aggressively in Bollywood .Our film will be released by Hindi producer Duggal in a maximum number of theatres across India. We have hired a PR team which promoted ‘RRR’ since our film is a tale of an underdog who turns superhero with the blessings of Lord Hanuman. Although, the audience will feel the presence of Hanuman throughout the movie, his actual appearance will be limited but would be impactful.
Q: We heard that you are dubbing the film in Spanish and Korean languages too?
A: We are planning to dub the film in several languages including Spanish, Korean, Japanese and Chinese since we want to reach out to a wider audiences across the world. It is just to show the world that India is a land of superheroes and we could match western superheroes in feat and power.
Q: Aren’t you a bit over ambitious? How is the VFX work shaping up?
A: We have become ambitious since our producer Niranjan Reddy, who is from the USA, is giving us full support. If not for him, we wouldn’t have spent three times more than the actual budget. He wanted to deliver a never-before-seen socio fantasy adventure. We have picked talented people for VFX work from cities like Chennai, Mumbai and UK since we have 1600 VFX shots in the movie. They asked us for two months' time, but we gave them six months to deliver breath-taking visuals. I have penned more than 10 superhero stories like ‘Adheera’ since I’m fascinated with this genre these days.
